Get set to explore the wonders of science through the annual Science Week for Schools program at QVMAG! 

Our 2024 education program welcomes a full-day program for classrooms filled with hands-on and interactive STEAM based learning activities at the Museum at Inveresk, focusing on this year’s Science Week theme: Species Survival – More than just sustainability.  

Classrooms can discover everything from the solar system and sustainable waste management, through to species survival, rainwater harvesting challenges, and more.

The 2024 program at a glance: 

  • The Science Week for Schools program at QVMAG is a week-long offering for northern Tasmanian schools across Monday 12 to Friday 16 August 2024.

  • Each classroom booking is for one day of dedicated programming from 9am to 2pm at the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk

  • There are 6 classroom placements per day available as part of this week-long program. Throughout Science Week, 30 classrooms will be offered the opportunity to participate in the 2024 program at QVMAG.

  • 2024 welcomes a ballot system allowing classrooms to express interest in attending this program, with successful applicants being notified and offered the opportunity to accept their placement on Tuesday 24 June.  

  • One ballot EOI = one classroom. If applying for multiple classrooms, please complete a new EOI submission for each group.

  • We understand certain days of the week are always popular. If successful in the EOI ballot system, classrooms will be offered a set day and time to accept as part of this program. We are unfortunately unable to accommodate individual date preference requests.  

About the ballot system: 

This popular QVMAG schools' program will welcome a booking EOI ballot system for 2024 to ensure schools across the greater Launceston region and northern Tasmania have equal opportunity to express interest in joining the Science Week fun at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.  

How to submit an EOI for your classroom:

  1. Express your interest by completing the following online form with your contact details before 5pm, Friday 21 June, and our friendly team will contact once bookings for 2024 open.

  2. On Tuesday 24 June, successful classrooms will be notified and offered the opportunity to book their session as part of the 2024 program and close out their booking details

  3. Any unsuccessful EOI’s will be notified on Thursday 27 June 

EOI submissions are now closed.

Is the Northern Suburbs school competition available again in 2024?

It sure is!

Each year the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) host Science Week celebrations, including a week-long educational series for schools in northern Tasmania running between Monday 12 to Friday 16 August 2024.  

This year, QVMAG has once again teamed up with the City of Launceston’s My Place My Future project to host a competition that will see two lucky classrooms within the Northern Suburbs of Launceston win a FREE full day experience, and bus transport, as part of this Science Week program.  

To enter, simply share with us in 100 words or less why your classroom would love to experience Science Week at QVMAG via the online submission form below, with the two winning classrooms set to be notified on Tuesday 24 June 2024.  

About the experience: 

This full day experience will have your classroom exploring a range of hands-on learning activities relating to the 2024 Science Week theme Species Survival: More Than Just Sustainability. 

Whether it’s learning about the solar system and sustainable waste management, through to species survival, rainwater harvesting challenges, and more—this day will be jam-packed with science education for primary school class groups.  

This full-day experience runs from 9.30am to 2pm, with bus transport included to and from the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk on the day.  

About the competition: 

While only two lucky classrooms from the Northern Suburbs of Launceston will be chosen to join the QVMAG Science Week for Schools program at the Museum at Inveresk, two fun-filled education prize packs from the QVMAG Shop will be up for grabs for two lucky runner up classrooms (valued at over $400 per prize pack!). Winners of the two prize packs will be notified on Tuesday 24 June 2024.

Why have you moved to a ballot system?

The below system for our popular annual Science Week for Schools program offers a fair way for classrooms across northern Tasmania to be in the running to join this program.   

When will I be notified of the ballot outcome?

  1. On Tuesday 24 June, successful classrooms will be notified and offered the opportunity to book their session as part of the 2024 program and close out their booking details.

  2. Any unsuccessful EOI’s will be notified on Thursday 27 June.

Can I submit a ballot entry for multiple classrooms within one school?

Ballot entries must be submitted as one entry per classroom. If successful in the ballot for 2024, each entry will be offered the opportunity to book for one class group on a set date within the program schedule.

As above. Ballot entries must be submitted as one entry per classroom. If successful in the ballot for 2024, each successful entry will be offered the opportunity to book for one class group of children. This ensures the popular QVMAG Science Week for Schools program can welcome a range of schools from across northern Tasmania.
