Disappearing into Being
This exhibition is now closed.
On display at the Queen Victoria Art Gallery, Royal Park from 12 May to 11 November 2018.
This exhibition will survey the work of Launceston artist Robyn McKinnon. One of Tasmania's most important contemporary artists, McKinnon has a stylistically diverse practice spanning over 40 years. This is the first large-scale museum exhibition for the artist and brings together many of her most significant works.
Taking inspiration from her local surroundings, McKinnon's work transcribes memories of place and landscape, both real and imagined. Driven by a curiosity for the everyday; observations of her local community in Invermay, or walks through Cataract Gorge, are transformed into poetic works of art.
At times autobiographical, McKinnon's work ranges across both figuration and abstraction, revealing a perceptive sensibility and a keen eye for detail. The exhibition will include more than 50 works of art: large-scale paintings, pencil drawings, and object-based works.
