Archie 100: A Century of the Archibald Prize
Celebrating 100 years of Australia’s most renowned portrait prize, this landmark exhibition explores the Archibald prize across its history, revealing fascinating stories behind 100 carefully selected artworks.
It uncovers changes in society in engaging ways, enabling people to experience how artistic styles and approaches to portraiture have changed over a century.
Australia’s oldest and most prestigious portrait award, the Archibald Prize, celebrates its centenary in 2021. To mark the occasion QVMAG is one of eight regional galleries across 2021-23 to host the celebratory national touring exhibition.
Archie 100 presents the controversies and the commonplace, and above all, the artists who have made the Archibald Prize the most sought-after accolade in the Australian art world today.
Resulting from many years of searching for lost portraits, Archie 100 will feature works from the Art Gallery of New South Wale's collection as well as works from libraries, galleries and museums across Australia and New Zealand, and private Australian and international collections.
The exhibition will tour nationally with QVMAG the only Tasmanian location to host the touring exhibition.

Tickets for the Archie 100: a century of the Archibald Prize exhibition will be available for online purchase via Eventbrite from Friday 14 October 2022. Tickets will additionally be available for purchase on-site prior to entry to the exhibition at the Museum at Inveresk.

Can I pre-book my tickets?
Yes, tickets are available for purchase via Eventbrite alongside on-site ticket sales.
If purchasing tickets online, please bring your ticket (printed or on your phone) and present it to the Front Desk to receive your entry wristband. Your wristband will allow re-entry to the exhibition on the day of your booking. If you've purchased a concession or Friends membership ticket, please present your concession card or membership upon arrival.
