The life and times of a £10 pom with Carol Fuller

Carol Fuller.jpg

Carol Fuller has held leadership positions in education and commmunity sectors, and will share her story on how migrating to Australia shaped her life and how she hopes she may have repaid her £10 passage.

Carol and Jeffery Jennings emigrated with their parents from Yorkshire to post war Australia under the “ £10 Pom” Assisted Passenger scheme and settled in Smithton, Tasmania.

Carol was educated at Burnie High School and the University of Tasmania. After graduating she embarked on a successful career in education over 40+ years. Her professional experience encompassed teaching from primary to university level and challenging administrative positions.

The energy, passion, commitment and leadership that Carol brought to her teaching are also evident in her roles within the community; she is a past president and member of the Zonta Club of Launceston for twenty years; founder and secretary of the Launceston White Ribbon Committee and a Tasmanian reading judge for the Children’s Book Council Australia 2009/10 and 2021/22.

Carol’s achievements were formally acknowledged in 2017 when she was a finalist for Senior Tasmanian of the Year, Australia Day Ambassador 2018-20 and in 2020 was awarded the Citizen Award from the City of Launceston.
