Royal Society of Tasmania: Dr Hannah Fair
The Royal Society of Tasmania Northern Branch presents a public lecture by Dr. Hannah Fair: Modifying Health and Lifestyle Factors to Reduce Dementia Risk.
Dr. Hannah Fair will explain some of the findings that turned the world’s attention to dementia risk reduction, and outline the 12 highly-evidenced modifiable risk factors that account for 40% of dementia cases globally.
Dr. Fair will then turn her attention to programs that promote dementia risk-reducing behaviour, particularly focusing on world-leading programs being implemented in lutrawita/Tasmania. Dr. Fair’s presentation will include unpublished research, and will highlight the challenges of providing equitable health promotion opportunities.
Dr. Hannah Fair is a passionate lecturer and researcher who focuses on understanding and improving equity in health promotion, particularly in dementia prevention. She evaluates online health education programs like the Preventing Dementia and Understanding Traumatic Brain Injury MOOCs to assess their impact and reach.
Dr. Fair also explores the role of informal conversations in spreading dementia risk information to a wider audience. Her research methods involve both quantitative (statistical modelling, social network analysis) and qualitative (interviews, focus groups, thematic analysis) approaches. She teaches on public health approaches to dementia and dementia risk reduction, emphasizing health equity and social determinants of health.
Dr. Fair works for the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre at the University of Tasmania.
