Our people their stories: Dr Brendan Vote
Brendan Vote was born in Canberra, where his father was an electrical technician and his mother was a hairdresser.
The eldest of 7 brothers and sisters he spent his early childhood in PNG before returning to Sydney and then moving to Brisbane where he attended Corinda State High and then went on to study Medicine at University of Queensland graduating in 1990 intermitting in 1987 as an exchange student at University of Massachusetts in Amherst where he studied psychology (human neuropsychology, personality and psychology of persuasion).
The experiences that led Dr Brendan Vote to move to Launceston in 2004, establishing the Launceston Eye Hospital and the Tasmanian Eye Institute and becoming Clinical Professor in Ophthalmology at the University of Tasmania, create a fascinating story.
How Dr Brendan Vote came to amass the largest collection of works on paper in Australia by 20th century surrealist artist, Salvador Dali, and undertook the renovation of Launceston's historic Wilmot and Johnstone building to share this collection with the public in his new art gallery, dAda mUse, adds an extraordinary extra dimension to this personal story.
