Travel back in time and explore our land through Indigenous eyes in The Earth Above: A Deep Time View of Australia's Epic History.
Explore Australia’s past 140,000 years through this feature-length full-dome planetarium show that incorporates traditional and scientific knowledge to tell Australia’s epic story.
The show will transport viewers to four key locations, each highlighting ground-breaking research from CABAH flagship projects and foregrounding the voices and visions of Indigenous communities:
- Girraween Lagoon on Larrakia and Wulna Country outside Darwin in the NT - knowned as the 'place of flowers'
- Cloggs Cave on GunaiKurnai Country in Victoria’s East Gippsland region - known by the GunaiKurnai to be a place of medicine and magic
- Lake Mungo in NSW on the land of the Barkandji/Paakantyi, Ngiyampaa and Mutthi Mutthi people - one of Australia's most significant environmental and cultural landscapes
- Jiigurru (Lizard Island) on the Great Barrier Reef, which is sacred to many, including the Dingaal community - offering an extraordinary view of the islands and trade routes voyaged long ago.
The Earth Above has been developed to provide a ‘big history’ narrative that combines the efforts and knowledge of Indigenous communities and science to help future-proof Australia’s biodiversity and heritage.

First Nations communities and UOW Science Space.

Each Planetarium show is followed by a live tour of the current night sky.

• The Planetarium is closed Mondays and public holidays (with the exception of Mondays that fall within school holidays)
• A family ticket offers admission for two adults and two children, or one adult and three children. If more than a family of four are seeking entry under a family ticket, another adult/child ticket will need to be purchased
Conditions of entry:
You must arrive 15 minutes before the show's start time.
• Check in at the Information Desk to collect tickets before heading around to the Planetarium foyer
• Uncollected Eventbrite tickets will be forfeited if arrival is less than 15 minutes before hand
