International Women’s Day 2025 focuses on accelerating action for gender equality, and QVMAG has curated an inspiring programme of workshops to celebrate this empowering theme.

The Object Gallery at the Museum at Inveresk will be transformed into a dynamic, participatory art space where two collaborative works will take shape: a large canvas woven with personal stories and a growing collection of clay figurines forming a community-built installation.

As part of the celebrations, 5 inspiring members of the Antarctic Women’s Network will lead an engaging discussion on working as a female in the harsh yet beautiful landscape of Antarctica.

Throughout the program, local artists and QVMAG staff will lead workshops and drop-in sessions, filling the Object Gallery with creativity and conversation. At other times, the space will remain open for visitors to observe the artwork’s progress, reflect quietly, or engage in meaningful discussions.

The IWD2025 celebrations will conclude with a free morning tea event on Friday, 7 March — an opportunity to connect, celebrate, and be empowered to accelerate action for gender equality. The Object Gallery will also remain open until 16 March, showcasing the Shaping Femininity progressive community artwork—a powerful display of creativity and collaboration.

Join us for one or more of our inspiring, free art workshops—where creativity and storytelling blend to create a large collaborative canvas.

Noted local artists Katie Barron, Manuela Pilz, and Daria Andrews, and sensorimotor art therapist Sarah Poulton will each lead sessions and guide you in experimenting with a variety of artistic techniques. As you create your artistic contribution, you’ll be invited to share personal and family stories, weaving them into the fabric of the artwork itself.

To mark the conclusion of our International Women’s Day workshops, participants will have the opportunity to take home a small piece of the canvas—a cherished keepsake of this shared creative journey.
