QVMAG Friends Monthly Talk with Rob Shaw
Join us for this month’s talk A Life in Words with Rob Shaw Sports Editor at the Examiner.
Rob grew up in England, where he completed a journalism course and worked in regional newspapers for 13 years. Here Rob provided freelance football reports for national newspapers plus radio and television stations.
He married a Tasmanian and moved to Launceston in 2002. Since then he has worked as a reporter and sub-editor at the Examiner. He has been the Examiner Sport Editor for 16-years.
Rob has covered sports globally, including test matches, grand finals for the AFL and BBL, Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Glasgow and the Gold Coast and Olympic Games in London and Rio de Janeiro.
Rob has ghost-written columns with elite cyclists, Matthew Gilmore, Mark Jamieson and national cricket captain George Bailey. He has an extensive list of trusted sporting contacts.
Having written a weekly column about sport since 2004, Rob published a compilation of his favourites last year in a book.
He has been approached to write regular articles about climbing Tasmania's highest mountains for the magazine Forty South.
In 32 years, Rob has observed the evolution of journalism from typewriters and hot metal to mobile phones and social media.
Rob’s talk will expand on these interesting biographical milestones.
Copies of his publication A Shaw Thing will be available for purchase following the talk.
