Our people, their stories: Jo Archer
Join us for this month’s QVMAG Friends talk Life, loves, experiences and peace with Josephine (Jo) Mary Archer former Councillor of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Director of RACT and Trustee of the Tamar Community Peace Trust.
Jo was raised on a dairy farm in Longford. At times Jo Archer's ride through life has been quite bumpy and a little chaotic but it has exposed her to many fascinating and diverse experiences, people and places.
Leaving school early she worked on the family farm and for local firms before being taken under the wing of the inimitable Edith de Vermond at Capri Corset Salon
A stint at the Examiner gave her marketing and media-related experiences including working with the World Sheep and Wool Congress, the Royal National Agricultural Society, Tasmanian Country and the Tasmanian Convention Bureau.
Jo enrolled at UTAS as a mature aged student undertaking tertiary education programs in business and governance. She became Executive Officer of the Launceston Chamber of Commerce, was charged with re-building the organization and wrestled with many thorny issues including the arrival of large format retailing and the controversial Gunn’s Pulp Mill.
Today Jo and her husband Stuart live at Legana. Horses and scuba diving have been her passions. She rode competitively through her younger years. Scuba diving has afforded Jo the joy of experiencing the underwater world in numerous locations around the world.
In this talk, Jo will discuss the establishment of the Tamar Community Peace Trust and the focus of the 2021 Tamar Valley Peace Festival in August.
