Jimmy Possum: the living tradition of Tasmanian chair making
Who was Jimmy Possum? And how did a unique design develop in a small region of northern Tasmania?
Come and explore a story that begins with the mysterious identity of a man called Jimmy Possum and an Australian bush chair making tradition that spans more than 150 years.
Join QVMAG Senior Curator Ashley Bird and co-curator Dr Mike Epworth as they unravel the clues to the illusive man who started the tradition and discuss the moments in the history after Jimmy Possum that make this furniture so important social and culturally, not only to Tasmania, but to the nation.
If the weather will allow, we'll move the floor talk out in the garden where Mike will demonstrate the use of the tools used this specific tradition of chairmaking.
