Handmark presents the Flinders Quartet at QVMAG

Handmark Gallery celebrates artist Michael McWilliams, with an intimate concert by the acclaimed Flinders Quartet set amongst his extraordinary exhibition 'Gentle Protagonist' at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceston.

Flinders Quartet is one of Australia’s most loved and respected chamber music ensembles. Formed in 2000, the Flinders Quartet champions the role of the string quartet in 21st-century Australia, blending classical tradition with contemporary innovation. Committed to commissioning and premiering new works, they engage established, mid-career, and emerging composers, fostering the development of Australian chamber music. Their performances, recognised for their artistry and emotional depth, captivate audiences across Australia and beyond. Through education, touring, and collaboration, the Flinders Quartet nurtures talent and fosters community engagement, ensuring the enduring relevance of the string quartet.

Michael McWilliam's survey of 100 works at QVMAG recognises the extraordinary contribution he has made to the Australian art world. As one of Tasmania's most loved artists, his distinctive and quirky landscapes, are also imbued with a more serious undertone of the human impact on our natural environment.
