Explore artistic techniques

Arts on Site is an ongoing series that delves into a diverse range of art practices, with workshops running for 2 or 4 hours. Each workshop will focus on a particular technique:

  • Visual storytelling: Capture the essence of our sites through the lens, learning composition, lighting, and storytelling through videography and photography.

  • Sketching and drawing: Unleash your creativity using pencils, charcoal, and ink. Discover the joy of lines, shapes, and shading.

  • Oil painting: Dive into the rich world of oil colours. Experiment with brushstrokes, colour mixing, and expressive techniques.

  • Watercolour painting: Explore the delicate beauty of watercolours. Learn washes, layering, and transparency.

  • Textile design: Create tactile patterns, motifs, and fabric art. From felt to screen printing, let textiles be your canvas.

  • Interior design: Understand spatial aesthetics, balance, harmony and colour of spaces. Transform your surrounds with your artistic vision.

Two unique venues:

Workshops are held at our two venues: Art Gallery at Royal Park at 2 Wellington Street, and the Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road. These two diverse and unique locations provide the perfect setting for artistic inspiration:

  • Architecture: At the Art Gallery at Royal Park, be inspired by the grand architectural design, a historically significant building that officially opened in 1891. At the Museum at Inveresk, absorb the industrial heritage of the site that was formerly the Launceston Railyards.

  • Exhibitions and artworks: Dive into our current exhibitions to inspire and spark creativity. Discuss, analyse, deconstruct, and appreciate the featured artworks and displays, and gain insights from your facilitators and fellow participants.

  • Collection items and artefacts: Explore QVMAG's history through our collection, which has been curated for nearly 200 years. Observe a range of curious objects that hold stories and memories — and connect us to place.
