Visitor favourite ArtRage returns

 

This Sunday the doors will open to the annual student art exhibition ArtRage at the Queen Victoria Art Gallery at Royal Park.

The 2022 exhibition will welcome a staggering 187 artworks to the Art Gallery from students in years 11 and 12 across Tasmania.

From analogue photography and traditional printmaking techniques to sculpture, video animation and more, ArtRage 2022 offers an eclectic and vibrant display of student works.

As part of the ArtRage experience, students have been assessed on their works for their Tasmanian Certificate of Education.

Each year, a panel of ArtRage examiners award a prize for the most outstanding piece of work within the touring exhibition.

Long-time ArtRage supporter Mayor Danny Gibson said the exhibition provides an important platform for emerging artists across Tasmania.

"Each year I look forward to exploring the works on display in ArtRage," Mayor Gibson said.

"The talent on display in 2022 is extraordinary. All students featured should be immensely proud of their works and to be a part of this state-wide touring exhibition."

General Manager of Creative Arts and Cultural Services Shane Fitzgerald said ArtRage was an annual visitor favourite.

"It's a highlight for us each year to develop ArtRage and tour a brilliant showcase of work from student artists across Tasmania," Fitzgerald said.

"The exhibition will be on display at the Art Gallery at Royal Park until 11 April 2023, before it tours to galleries on the North-West Coast and in Hobart."

This year's guest curator Patrick Sutczak said it had been a great experience to develop the 2022 exhibition.

"One of the most enjoyable curatorial experiences of ArtRage has been viewing the diversity of student works across all mediums," Sutczak said.

"Seeing the selected works come together in the same room is very exciting.

"I hope that each student featured in ArtRage will maintain the confidence and inspiration within themselves to continue with future creative study or in independent practice post year 12."

ArtRage is on display at the Art Gallery at Royal Park (2 Wellington Street, Launceston) from this Sunday, December 18 2022 with free entry.
