This month, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) welcomes back Curators in The Pub, a series of free, informal talks for the Launceston community.

Now in its third year, the program will return to Du Cane Brewing on Elizabeth Street for three Wednesday evenings in August.

This year’s Curators in the Pub series will feature conversations on history and art. Participants are invited to bring in an old object from home for our curators to decide if it’s a gem or junk, bring along a treasured historical photograph for our history team to decode, or journey back in time to discover the rich ceramics traditions of Launceston.

City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said Curators in the Pub was a fun and engaging way for Launceston locals to explore the world around us.

“These events are a great opportunity to learn about our local history and art with the team from QVMAG,” Mayor Garwood said.

“It will be an opportunity for those looking for a fun, mid-week evening event in Launceston’s CBD throughout August and I encourage everyone to come along and make the most of it.”

General Manager Creative Arts and Cultural Services Shane Fitzgerald said the events were a popular outreach activity on the QVMAG annual calendar and a great way for the institution to connect with audiences across Launceston.

“Curators in the Pub is one of many community outreach events the QVMAG team is looking forward to hosting this year across the City,” Fitzgerald said.

“It's the perfect opportunity for our team to share their knowledge on a range of topics in a fun, conversational environment. We’ve had a great time putting the program together and we look forward to Launceston joining us in August.”
