Calling 30 years of ArtRage students: where are you now?

Where are they now? Beloved annual student art exhibition ArtRage is set to celebrate a milestone by welcoming back works from past years.

Each year, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) develops ArtRage, a showcase of top artworks created by year 11 and 12 students as part of their Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE). The exhibition is now in its 30th year of supporting budding artists from across the state.

To help celebrate, QVMAG is on the hunt for people who have been involved in ArtRage over the past 30 years to display their original works alongside the annual exhibition at the Art Gallery at Royal Park in December.

City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said it will be great to welcome back artists and makers from the past 30 years of ArtRage and find out their stories.

“I can’t wait to see what pops up from this public call for past student works. Who knows what gems may be hiding in living rooms and garages across Tasmania? If you’ve been part of ArtRage in the past, I’d encourage you to get in touch,” Mayor Garwood said.

General Manager Creative Arts and Cultural Services Shane Fitzgerald said the annual ArtRage exhibition is well-known for fostering the artistic growth of students across Tasmania.

“QVMAG is proud to have supported arts education in Tasmania over so many years,” Fitzgerald said.

“Our institution is committed to providing a platform to new artists, makers and voices through programs such as ArtRage. This exhibition is also an annual favourite for audiences across our island.”

QVMAG Leader, Exhibitions Alisanne Butler said she hopes that many former ArtRage artists and makers will come forward to share their works and tell their stories.

"What makes ArtRage great is the people involved each year,” Butler said.

“We’d love to hear from anyone with artworks and stories from past years as we develop our 30th anniversary exhibition and encourage previous exhibitors to get in touch via our website to share their experience with ArtRage and where they are now.”
