ArtStart showcases youth talent
The latest exhibition to open at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery features works by Northern Tasmanian students from kindergarten through to grade six.
The popular ArtStart program is an annual initiative of QVMAG that seeks to encourage the participation of Northern Tasmanian primary schools in learning about visual art and design.
Each year ArtStart celebrates a new theme, with the 2022/23 exhibition exploring 'Our home, Tasmania'.
Launceston Mayor Danny Gibson said the exhibition showcased a great display of art from students in years K-6 across Northern Tasmania.
"It's brilliant to see the ArtStart program continue to grow each year across Northern Tasmania," Mayor Gibson said.
"This program continues to foster an important connection between students and the arts in Tasmania and is a great way to connect budding artists with the world of QVMAG from a young age."
ArtStart is one of two annual student art exhibitions developed by QVMAG, with the other, ArtRage, featuring the work of students in years 11 and 12 from across the state.
General Manager of Creative Arts and Culture Shane Fitzgerald said ArtStart was an important annual program designed for children to learn about art and creative practices.
"This year's theme 'Our home, Tasmania' has been a great way for students to explore the history and culture of our island within classrooms across Northern Tasmania," Mr Fitzgerald said.
"As part of the ArtStart program each year we welcome a group of student curators to work with our team and choose which works will be featured within the exhibition.
"Our team really enjoys the process of developing and delivering this annual exhibition as it provides an important opportunity for educational outreach within communities across Northern Tasmania.
"I encourage everyone to visit this exhibition at the Art Gallery at Royal Park and enjoy the vibrant selection of works on display."
ArtStart is now open at the Art Gallery at Royal Park (2 Wellington Street, Launceston) with free entry.
