International Women's Day 2024
International Women's Day 2024 is about inspiring inclusion, and QVMAG has an incredible program of workshops to celebrate this empowering theme.
QVMAG is hosting a variety of free and ticketed workshops in February and March 2024 in the weeks prior to our celebration on International Women's Day. Join Aunty Vicki West as she demonstrates how to dye beautiful silk scarves, or take part in the collaborative progressive artwork that responds to a seminal piece from the QVMAG collection.
On Friday 8th March, the artworks developed in these workshops will be unveiled at a morning tea at the Museum at Inveresk, celebrating and inspiring inclusion for all.

QVMAG Aboriginal Learning Facilitator and pakana artist Aunty Vicki West will lead three workshops at the Museum at Inveresk to celebrate and honour our connection to the land.
Participants will learn to dye silk scarves with plants from Country, and be inspired to make use of sustainable cultural resources through a making and yarning circle.
All creations will be showcased and celebrated at our free morning tea on International Women's Day 2024, Friday 8th March 2024 at the Museum.

QVMAG is delighted to lead a collaborative progressive artwork project, celebrating 2024's International Women's Day 2024 theme of #InspireInclusion.
The progressive artwork project is in response to Vera Zulimovski's The Recluse, a powerful reflection of womanhood from the QVMAG collection.
This project is free and open to everyone who wishes to collaborate, and the artwork will developed in the weeks leading up to International Women's Day.
The artwork will be sectioned using the grid method, and each participant will select a square to recreate with their own artistic flair. Various materials and styles will be incorporated, from charcoal drawing to embroidery to painting to wire and wool. Participants can choose to create their own piece at one of our drop-in sessions, or receive expert tutelage from noted local artists and the QVMAG Learning and Engagement team.
At the conclusion, the completed work will resemble a multi-media tapestry that pays homage to The Recluse. This striking work will take on a new life, rendered in vibrant colour and unique patch-work style, to celebrate the contribution from the community and inspiring inclusion for all.
The final piece will be unveiled at the International Women's Day morning tea on Friday 8th March at the Museum at Inveresk.
Free drop-in sessions
The Learning Centre at the Museum will be open at set times for the public to come in and choose a square of the work to add their own colour and flair to using any of the materials provided.
The progressive artwork project will run throughout the weeks leading up to the reveal celebration event on the 8th of March 2024.

Free workshop series
Learn specific techniques to create your artwork square, under the guidance of noted local female artists and the QVMAG Learning and Engagement Team. Spaces are limited, so be sure to reserve your spot.
Join us to celebrate International Women's Day at our free community event and be energised by the 2024 theme #InspireInclusion through our two major community projects:
